The Pursuit of Happiness

Taking a look at the song “Pursuit of Happiness” by Kid Cudi, it clearly focuses on illegal actions and rebellious views. However, I think that’s what makes this song so pleasurable to listen to. Reflecting back on when I was younger, I only truly seemed interested in doing the things I wasn’t allowed to do. Even to this day, I believe there’s some type of rush I get out of doing something for the thrill of it and pure excitement. Now-a-days it’s harder for kids/young adults in our generation to stay entertained and content with things; so I believe these random acts of craziness derive from their own pursuit of happiness.

“Looking ahead no turning back
If I fall if I die
Know I lived it to the fullest
If I fall if I die
Know I lived and missed some bullets”

“I'm on the pursuit of happiness and I know
Everything that's shine ain't always gonna be gold (hey)
I'll be fine once I get it, get it in, I'll be good”

From the lyrics above, Kid Cudi is symbolizing that life will go on no matter what. It doesn’t matter what happens to you in life, but what you do with your life. It’s this optimistic mindset he displays, that gives a feeling of hope. The way he sings is a very relaxed setting, allowing the listener to feel that he’s speaking to you rather preaching to you. Because, once again, we’re a generation full of people who don’t like people told what to do. The chorus I believe is the most effective. Saying that one day he will be happy; and although not everything will be perfect, once he finds true happiness he will be content.
