Comic Strip Panel Analysis
In this Pearls Before Swine Comic, Rat is the President of the United States, and is giving a press conference about his first one hundred days in office. This strip relates to current events in politics today. Rat for example, has always been the kind of character who says whatever is on his mind, and often makes unsavory comments. In this comics universe, he is elected president of the United States as a comparison to our own president and how people often are upset due to his unsavory comments. On the third and fourth panels of this strip, Rat proclaims that putting pineapple on pizza and eating it will be considered a felony. This is in reference to the recent statement made by Icelandic president Guðni Th. Jóhannesson, whom said that if it were up to him, putting pineapple on pizza would be against the law. This incident was in no way meant to be taken seriously and thus has been lightly joked about through media the last few days, and this comic is a reflection of that. By mixing the two topics, of President Trump and outlawing pineapple on pizza, the comic pokes at the left wing idea that Trump is irrational and thus unfit to be president.
